The Corporal & Spiritual Works of Mercy
…& other stuff
The Appalachian Catholic Worker believes in Peter Maurin’s concept of “personalism.”
We are the keepers of our brothers and sisters. We make ourselves available for opportunities to perform the works of mercy, and intentionally “fill in the gaps”
when other people, organizations and agencies are either unwilling or unable to do so. However, any of the random favors we do, services we provide, and help we give
in town or in the hollers, only resemble and reflect those which we receive
on a daily basis -in gracious abundance- from our Appalachian friends and neighbors.

(The works of mercy aren’t
always easy, but the toughest ones seem to be “bearing wrongs patiently” and
“forgiving all injuries.”
Whether we experience
them ourselves, or witness
others struggling with them,
let us pray.)
